Common Causes
- A thermostat set incorrectly, miscalibrated, or with a stuck call for cooling
- A stuck relay or contactor keeping the outdoor unit energized
- A thermostat sensing problem making it think the home has not reached temperature
- Extreme heat load the system cannot keep up with, especially with poor insulation or ductwork loss
- A wiring issue keeping the system signaled to run
What You Can Safely Check
- Confirm the thermostat setting and mode are correct
- Try adjusting the set temperature up a few degrees to see if the system responds and shuts off
- Note whether the home ever reaches the set temperature or if it seems to run indefinitely regardless of setting
When to Call NILOV
- The system does not shut off even when you raise the thermostat setting well above room temperature
- You suspect a stuck relay or contactor
- The system has been running continuously for an extended period without the home cooling down
